Linslade Canal Festival

Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, our much loved canal festival was unable to take place in 2020. Due to the uncertainty around the easing of restrictions in 2021, a difficult decision to cancel the festival again this year has been taken.

The Canal Festival will be replaced with a Films in the Paddocks event on Saturday 31st July & Sunday 1st August. More details can be found on the Films in the Paddock page.

The ever popular one day canal festival celebrates and highlights canal life, conservation, the countryside and the traditional rural crafts of yesteryear. Taking place annually on the last Saturday in July, 2019’s Festival was a huge success with over 9000 visitors attending to enjoy great entertainment, good quality stalls and some beautiful boats.

With the continued growth of the event, in 2019 we decided to extend the stage programme, stalls, food and bar opening until 8pm within the Paddocks with our headline act playing us through until the end of the Festival. The peaceful Lakeside and historical Poplars areas of the event still finished at 5pm.

Along the canal side a vibrant mixture of working, historical and trade boats displayed their wares in addition to the colourful pleasure boats which visited the festival. The boats offered the perfect opportunity to purchase that unique gift for a loved one, or a gentle afternoon browse away from the hustle and bustle of a busy shopping centre.

The festival featured a mix of Old English crafts and skills, alongside a more modern mix of food stalls, craft exhibits and activities for the whole family to enjoy.

Throughout the day the main stage featured a mixture of traditional folk and English country music, together with some more contemporary numbers from local performers. Performers were also found around the event site dancing or playing music.

With a wide range of food stalls and a licensed bar on site, eating/drinking whilst taking is all part of the festival and was enjoyed by many visitors.

The Canal Festival is supported by the Canal & River Trust, Central Bedfordshire Council, Cedars Upper School and Linslade Middle School alongside our charitable partners, stallholders and demonstrators.
