Cycling Officers appointed for Leighton-Linslade

In June this year Bedfordshire County Council and the Town Council were successful in a bid to secure over £1million funding for Leighton Linslade to become Bedfordshire's  first cycling town.  This week three new Cycling Town Officers have been appointed and are already planning how to build a lasting cycling culture.

Pauline Roby, Alvina Farrow and Allison Jeavons are based at the Town Council offices in The White House, Hockliffe Street.  They will be working with schools, businesses and residents to ensure everyone has an opportunity to be trained in Bikeability, to enable them to adopt cycling as their preferred means of transport locally.   They also plan to forge a partnership with local retail forum I Love LB, to welcome customers who choose to visit the town centre by bike,  through a variety of means - including identifying additional cycle parking within the town.

Leighton Linslade is the UK smallest town to receive funding and now that Cycling England and the Department for Transport has formally approved its award, the team can get started with some exciting cycling activities. The project could make a real difference to congestion, whilst improving the environment and helping to make people fitter and healthier.

The first stage of the project will be to upgrade and improve cycle parking in all Leighton Buzzard and Linslade schools and increase the amount of cycle parking at the train station.

If you are interested in receiving a regular update on cycling activities in Leighton-Linslade, including cycle training, cycle rides, bike buddying and other events, please contact any of the new Cycling Officers at
