Leighton-Linslade in Bloom

The Town Council will be entering the Parish of Leighton-Linslade in this summer’s regional Anglia in Bloom competition and would like to invite everyone to participate in this exciting project.

The object of the competition is to develop and enhance existing areas into attractive green and floral displays and encourage local residents, businesses, organisations and schools to work together to improve and appreciate their local environment.

The competition promotes local horticulture and heritage initiatives and encourages the community to take responsibility and learn about and protect the natural environment around them.  The town will benefit from long term improvement through planting and regeneration of disadvantaged areas as well as addressing recycling and conservation issues.  It is envisaged that a greater sense of civic pride will be generated within the community, as we all need to work together to achieve the same goal.

Judging Day takes place on Thursday 15 July and it is hoped that we can beautify and transform existing areas within the town into an oasis of colour.  This can only be achieved with the enthusiastic co-operation of businesses, local organisations, schools, clubs and individuals.

As part of Anglia in Bloom, the Town Council will be holding various competitions to encourage everyone, whether they are gardeners or not, to be part of this worthwhile community project.  Planned events will include Best Dressed Pub, Best Kept Allotment and Open Gardens Day.  Local organisations and schools will also be encouraged to work on individual projects.

A Steering Group has been created to take this challenging but exciting project forward.  Meetings are held every month and anyone is welcome to attend.  Details regarding the progress of the campaign are included in a newsletter which you can access from the list of documents on the right of this page.

The Town Council would like to hear from anyone who would be interested in sponsoring a display, organise a working party dedicated to creating a specific project, take part in one of the above mentioned competitions or just volunteer their services to assist with the various projects that are proposed.
